When it comes to outdoor photography, the weather can play a big role in how the session goes. In Tennessee, weather conditions change frequently, and I do my best to balance your comfort, safety, and capturing the best possible shots. Here’s a quick guide on how we’ll handle cloudy days, rain, winter cold, and summer heat for your photo session.

Cloudy Days: The Perfect Lighting

I’ve had many clients wonder if cloudy days mean we need to reschedule, but there’s no need to worry! Cloudy days are actually ideal for outdoor photography. The clouds act as a natural light diffuser, softening the light and eliminating harsh sunspots and deep shadows. This means more flexibility for choosing locations, no need to worry about squinting in bright sunlight, and beautifully balanced lighting across every shot. So, if you wake up to an overcast day, rest assured—we’re still on for your session, and the results will be stunning!

Rainy Days: A Day-of Decision

Tennessee’s weather can be unpredictable, so when it comes to rain, I prefer to wait until the day of your session to make any decisions. If it’s raining, unfortunately, we will need to reschedule. Since I’m not a meteorologist, I base my judgment on weather maps and current forecasts as the session approaches.

If you’ve booked hair and makeup in advance, please let me know so we can consider that when making any last-minute calls. Makeup artists and stylists may need extra notice for rescheduling, and I want to respect their time as well. I also kindly ask for your understanding if we do have to move the date—it’s always with your comfort and the quality of your photos in mind.

Winter: Freezing Temperatures and Safety

Winter photo sessions can be magical, but when the temperature drops too low, it’s important to think about safety, especially for children. If we’re facing freezing temperatures, I’ll likely suggest rescheduling. Staying warm and comfortable allows everyone to focus on enjoying the session without distractions or discomfort.

Summer: Heat Warnings and Health

Tennessee summers can bring some intense heat, and for everyone’s safety, I prefer to reschedule if temperatures reach 99°F or higher, especially if there’s a heat warning in effect. Excessive heat can lead to discomfort, safety risks, and shorter session times as we try to stay cool, so rescheduling ensures a better experience and better photos.

Final Thoughts

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility with rescheduling due to weather conditions. I am dedicated to capturing your moments in the best conditions possible, and I’m here to make sure you’re comfortable and safe throughout the process. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns, and I’ll always do my best to keep you informed and prepared for your session.
